The Research Lab · Since 2007

We don't just teach photography & filmmaking. We invent their firsts.

The Creative Hut Research Lab is where students invent, not just study. Since 2007 our teams have set records in photography: the world's first Photography Gurukul, the world's first photography history calendar, the first photography game, and the biggest photography wheel, each held in national and world record books. In July 2026 the pattern continued with Rising Embers, the world's first AI feature film made inside a film school.

A pattern, not an accident

A record of world firsts, running since 2014

Creative Hut Academy holds world and national records across its research. Three record-holding inventions came from a single push in 2014. The next milestone, a feature film, arrived in 2026. Each was built by students inside the college, and each is verifiable through record books or public release.

The world firsts

Three inventions, from one film college in Kerala

In 2014, student teams at Creative Hut built three record-holding inventions in photography education. Each was created to teach the history and craft of photography in a way nothing else did, and each is entered in national and world record books.

July 2026 · the pattern continues

The same lab behind three photography records made the world's first AI feature film inside a film school.

Rising Embers was produced by twenty students over six months. A 140 minute feature headed for theatres, OTT, and festivals, with an eight track album in English and Malayalam. It is not a demo. It is the next entry in a record that began in 2014.

Research at Creative Hut

Every student is part of the lab

Research is not a side room here. It runs through the Gurukul model, where students live on campus and build alongside faculty.

01

Learn the craft

Photography, cinematography, and AI filmmaking, taught inside real production from the first semester.

02

Build inside the lab

Live on the residential campus and work on inventions, films, and research alongside the faculty who make them.

03

Leave with a credit

Graduate with a real screen credit and a body of work, not just a certificate on paper.

Questions

About the Research Lab

What has Creative Hut Academy invented?
Creative Hut holds records for the world's first photography Gurukul, the world's first photography history calendar, the first photography game, and the biggest photography wheel, all created inside the college. In 2026 it produced Rising Embers, the world's first AI feature film made inside a film school.
Are these world-first claims recognised anywhere?
Yes. The 2014 inventions were recorded in national and world record books and received awards. Each invention has its own page with the full list of records and recognitions.
What is the Gurukul model at Creative Hut?
It is a fully residential, live-and-learn model where students and mentors share one campus and make work together, in the guru-shishya tradition applied to photography and filmmaking. It is recorded as the world's first photography Gurukul in three world record books.
Who makes the research at Creative Hut?
Students, working alongside faculty on the residential Gurukul campus in Mattakkara, Kottayam, Kerala. The Research Lab is led by the founder and director, whose PhD is in progress on visual language.
Can students take part in the research?
Yes. Research runs through the one-year diplomas rather than sitting apart from them. Students on both diplomas build real work, and the capstone feature film is itself a research production.
Where is the Research Lab based?
On the residential campus at Karimpany P.O, Mattakkara, Kottayam, Kerala, India. It is a film and photography college running since 2007.
